In the play John Boyle O’Reilly, freedom fighter,escapologist, writer and journalist returns to Western Australia in search of the true story of Moondyne Joe.
John Bolitho Johns, known here in Western Australia as Moondyne Joe, caught the imagine of Irish Fenian Convict John Boyle O’Reilly. After O’Reilly escaped from Fremantle on an American Whaler he wrote the novel based on Johns adventures that made Moondyne Joe famous. Together in this play they discuss their experiences here in the Swan River Colony during the 1860’s and 1870’s.
Moondyne and Me- the Making of a Bushranger
will be produced at Enderslea Farm, 681 Blue Plains Rd. as part of the 2019 National Trust Heritage Festival.
Enderslea Farm with its large stone barn built by ticket-of -leave men and the stone well in the style built by the New Norcia monks
gives an evocative sense of place as both men share their stories.

The previous plays produced at Enderslea Farm were written by Jenny Davis. She has taken semi retirement and I do miss her but
Mike Lefroy and Will Axel with his team at Gemfonix will both make the visit to Enderslea an exciting experience.
