Glass Bottle and Post Card Collections

There are various collections at Enderslea Farm. Old bottles is one of them.If anyone is interested in old bottles a bottle club can be reached at www.colonialbottleclubofwa.com Another collection at Enderslea Farm consists of Old postcards depicting medical and nursing scenes. The Post Card Collectors of WA website is ww.w-a-p-c.net. I was at Duke University in Durham North Carolina and did an MA in History of medicine. John Crellin was my professor and was interested in the social history of Medicine. I often used to visit antique and vintage
shops and markets where there was usually a lot of old bottles and also shoe boxes of postcards. I began to look out for old medicine bottles and old health related postcards. This was in 1980 and these little things were very cheap. The post cards were usually cents rather than dollars. Around the beginning of the 20th Century towns and cities were very proud of their new hospitals. These featured prominently on postcards. There were of course lots of comic postcards about nurses being chased by patients etc. In this genre Macgill was the most popular artist. Of the bottles Friars Balsalm seemed to be the most common medicine but over the years I have a large variety of both bottles and postcards.
