Enderslea Farm is 165 Years Old. Some Researchers…….

Founded in 1853 by Henry and Sarah Morley, Enderslea Farm is 165  years old in 2018.

FIONA HARRIS has done remarkable research into the history of the Morley Family here and in Sussex England.

MORLEYS IN WESTERN AUSTRALIA – a Breakthrough in Research

published in the December 2017 edition of WESTERN ANCESTOR, The Journal of the Western Australian Genealogical Society Inc. Volume 13 No.12

This article is a result of her amazing persistance in researching the origins of Henry and Sarah Morley. She has traced Henry back to the 9th GenerationWilliam Morley/Morlye born ca. 1525 in Rudwick, Sussex.

As Fiona says the great challenge for all Morley researchers here in Western Australia has always been to trace the Family back to England. Thank you Fiona. One day someone might  discover where the name Enderslea Farm originated. Always wondered about that and have not discovered  that name anywhere on record in Sussex. Another Researcher might. Please let me know if and when.

KEVIN NORMAN ( email:kjn1961@ntlworld.com ) with his 2012 work on the internet

THE LIFE AND DEATH OF DANIEL BAUGHAN

has done significant research into his ancestor, the convict, shepherd Daniel Baughan. Daniel married Henry and Sarah’s daughter Carolyn Morley on  26th Of November 1853. Kevin’s wonderfully informative work  was used by me, of course with Kevin’s permission, for the play Sarah of Enderslea Farm. Enderslea Farm land was purchased  in 1853  and the large stone chimney on the property has always been called that of the Shepherds Hut. Probably Daniel and Carolyn lived there before they moved up to manage ‘Silver Springs’ in Champion Bay.

HELEN WYNN(Owen) has done a lot of research into the Ogden Family through which she is descended. Wilfred Ogden, an orchardist from Katanning, married Elsie Findlayson who was the second headmistress of Presbyterian Ladies College in Peppermint Grove Perth. Elsie purchased Enderslea Farm so Helen’s research will be very important towards expanding knowledge about previous owners of Enderslea Farm.  ‘Red Flowering Gums’,the Enderslea Farm play of 2016, was largely about Elsie and her sister-in-law Helen Ogden. Helen was Wilfred’s sister and an early photographer in WA. Together with artist Ida Richardson Helen published in 1929 ‘Flowers of Western Australia’ to help celebrate the Centennial of WA. First edition copies of this publication are in the Enderslea Library. It will be exciting to read the newly available information about the Ogden family through the research of Helen Wynn.

Kenneth and Evelyn Jean (nee Ford) Clarke bought Enderslea Farm in 1975.
