Elsie Rankine Finlayson

Elsie Rankine Finlayson

I’m in the process of creating an information page about the 2nd Headmistress of Presbyterian Ladies College Elsie Rankine Finlayson Ogden. She was a distinguished MA honours graduate from Cambridge and had wide teaching experience.

Shannon Lovelady, the Archivist at PLC, was interested in her and has researched a lot of information.
When I was told by a friend, Mary Yates, that she with her husband Wilfred were previous owners of Enderslea Farm I wanted to learn more.
She was headmistress of PLC between 19th February 1922 and until the end of 3rd term in 1927 a period of 6 years. She wanted to marry Wilfred Ogden, an orchardist, but as was usual in those days she could not work as a teacher if she was married.
It must have been a huge change for her. She did get involved in the social life of Chittering Valley and Bindoon. She was in fact the President of the Bindoon Country Women’s Association for some years.
A well known local historian, Boyd Martin,  remembers her and also her husband, Wilfred and their son Peter and has a few stories to tell.
If anybody has information about Elizabeth Finlayson Ogden Id love to hear about her.
