My favourite image was created by May Gibbs for the
WESTRALIA GIFT BOOK
This book was published in July 1916 as a fund raiser for
YMCA Military Work and Returned Nurses Fund during World War One
It has been in the Enderslea Farm collection many years. Professor Walter Murdoch who wrote the foreword was particularly proud that the book was a thoroughly local product. That is Western Australian.”It is home-made from title-page to colophon”
This book with May Gibbs amusing plate was printed before the earliest booklets Gumnut Babies and Gumblossom Babies that were printed in December for Christmas 1916. Over the years Ive collected home nursing books and various home nursing items, most of them from the 19th and early 20th century. I was delighted when I remembered this May Gibbs coloured plate when I recently began to look for her various books and cartoons as props for the play.
